Dr. question?have a large ovarian cyst, doc advises hysterectomy?
I think you need to get a second opinion. You're clearly uncomfortable with the option your current doctor is offering you. I think checking with another doctor at an unrelated practice is the least you can do to educate yourself about your options.
Reply:Sounds like you don't really trust your Doctor. If this is so and you are unsure, ask for a second opinion. Am 56 had all but one ovary removed about 17 yrs ago due to cysts. Have never been on hormone replacement because the ovary is still working. Maybe he suggested doing all to have it done . Do you plan on more children? If not, why not go ahead?
Reply:If your uterus is healthy, then you really ought to lose just the affected ovary. For that matter, even you have fibroids to go along with this cyst, it still may not necessitate a hysterectomy. You're close enough to menopause that unless your fibroids are causing you problems (from what you've said, if you have them, they're not causing you problems), you can leave your uterus, as fibroids will shrink with menopause.

Your doctor is doing nothing more than saving himself time in the future. You deserve better than that. You deserve better than being plunged instantly into menopause when it's not necessary. You deserve to not be patronized by this doctor, nor to be treated like a child who can't make decisions on their own.

You deserve a different doctor. You'll find one by asking for a second opinion.
Reply:I wouldn't do it... you should definitely get second, third, fourth opinion if you have too... DON'T DO IT!!
Reply:at ur age it is recomended to take out the uterus if u dont want a child.

Cyst on a kidney?

I just had an MRI on my back, and part of the radiologist's report was that they found a 7.6mm round cyst on my left kidney. The question is - what is a "large" cyst? This seems large to me. Internet research is confusing because there is too much information and most focus on cancers and such, which is reasonable. But, I hate to get worked up on something that is common - the internet research says that these are common as well. Thanks.

Cyst on a kidney?
I have a cyst on my kidney and they said it was caused from lupus and it was nothing to worry about at the present time. At first, when they saw it, they thought it was an abcess to my kidney and was going to remove the entire kidney. After they did more tests, they realized it would not be harmful to me so need to remove. Are you sure that they know that this is a cyst or could be a kidney stone? They might choose to do a scope which goes up to your kidney and then do a biopsy. That is how they tested mine and decided not to do surgery. Very rarely do these cysts on the kidney end up being cancer. I know it is hard to not worry but do not borrow problems until you find they exist. If what they see ends up being a stone instead, they will see this from the scope that they do. Don't get worked up yet. These things are common for a variety of reasons. The size and shape though just reminds me of a kidney stone.
Reply:hey!! my name is Jacqulyn and i'm 20 years old and i have cysts on my kidneys, liver and my ovaries! Cysts are just fluid filled sacs. They can cause alot of pain also but, there is nothing to worry about PROMISE!

Cyst in Thoratic Region - Does anyone know how serious this is?

I am freaking out. Just found out that a MRI found a cyst to be rather large spanning the Thoracic part of my spine from the T2-3 through the T8-9 region. It is pushing my spinal cord all the way to one side. In addition there are disk bulges both in the Cervical part of my spine as well as Thoracic region where the cyst is located. Also found evidence of Degenerative disease

Cyst in Thoratic Region - Does anyone know how serious this is?
No need to freak out, it is quite common to have deep cysts in the back. As far as the degenerative Disk Disease, almost everyone gets that, all it means is that you cartlidge between your vertebrae is slowly deteriorating. Sounds scarier than it really is....
Reply:I don't know why r u asking , i see that ur condition has been diagnosed and i assume the Dr. who did also explained the problem to u.

any way i don't understand which type of cysts is it but any way anything applying compression over spinal cord will be very series and u mentioned degeneration that started and it will increase if u did not have the proper ttt which in this case is definitely surgical

Cyst under skin?

i have a small cyst under my right cheek where a small pimple used to be. The cyst is very hard and can be moved around quite easily, it is about 5mm diameter. I am wondering whether i need to see a doctor or whether it is simply a spot? Will it fade in time or could it be something more serious? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cyst under skin?
i would go see a doctor for sure. i gotten a breast exam ( diff I know lol) and she found a lump. its round and can be moved around. she id sending me to get a ultra sound done in a few weeks just to make sure everything is good. even though she is pretty sure its fine you want to get things like this checked out . just incase the lump decides to change. better safe than sorry .
Reply:I would go see a doctor. In my experience, cysts don't go away, they simply get bigger. Your doctor can recommend a plastic surgeon to remove the cyst. I had a cyst removed from my forehead about 10 years ago.

Cyst in my ovarie with Anxiety - Any suggestions?

I have had a cyst in my ovaries for over 6months. I will start taking birth control soon. When having the pain from the cyst I become very anxious and usually have panic attacks. Recently I've discovered a radiation from the belly pain to my breast and my chest.

I've scared that it can be something more. Sometimes I get really sad and just want to veg out and cry and be left alone. It seems that my life isn't the same anymore. I want to be happy and life painfree. I recently joined a church in the area and hope that helps.

Any suggestions? I take zoloft, xanax and vicodin for my pain and sometimes trazadone for sleep.

Cyst in my ovarie with Anxiety - Any suggestions?
That's quite a list of medications just because of an ovarian cyst. The pain across your chest is very likely from stress and panic. My first inclination would be that you need to see a counselor to deal with the stress and panic attacks. RELAX! Take deep breaths and exercise, exercise, exercise--it works wonders. Even walking 20-30 minutes everyday will help! Cut back on the meds. Work on the stress and sleeping will be easy--Remember exercise!
Reply:I am seeing a therapist and a phsyciatris however you spell that.

I don't like talking about it alot because it makes me feel more depressed!! I am 26yrs old and want to live a normal life, a happy life.

And I can't!! Report It

Cyst ruptured and is cancerous?

My husbands grandmother went to the hosptial the other day bc she was bleeding. They found a cancerous cyst in her, and they did emergency surgery. They said something about the cyst rupturing and spreading throughout her body. They took her ovaries and basically all that stuff out and came out and said thats all they can do. They said you cant take kemo for this type of cancer, and that thats it. Does anyone have any advice? or any stories similar to this that the person gets treated w/ and doesn't pass away?? Thats BS that, thats it, sorry we didnt get it in time and now theres nothing we can do but wait for her to die. NO i dont think so, theres gotta be something we can do?????????

Cyst ruptured and is cancerous?
She needs a second opinon but if she did not go to the doc when she had symptoms earlier so they could have caught it sooner there is not much you can do. Once cancer has metastisized your main concern is keeping the patient comfortable. The docs are not trying to be rude they are being up front and honest about the fact that she did not go to a doctor soon enough with her symptoms and so the cancer has spread. I am not sure what you are hoping to hear but when you ignore symptoms and cancer spreads you have to get a second opinion and then just figure out where to go from there. I am sorry to hear that his grandmother did not get checked out sooner but please use this as a reminder for you and your husband to get your yearly physical exams and to not ignore symptoms that could be serious. There is a chance that radiation or chemo could slow down the progression but that is why you want a second opinion.
Reply:you can ask to see a cancer specialist=good luck and I hope you find the answer you are seeking
Reply:I am sorry to tell you that this does not sound good for grandmother. without knowing all the details, if this was an ovarian cancer, she will need the love and support of her family at this terrible time. sorry for what your family is going through. Be strong for her

Cyst in Fetal Brain at 37 weeks?

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant. Yay full term! Well last week I had an ultrasound. They found a cyst about the size of a dime in the fluid surrounding the baby’s brain. The doctor is a little concerned about the size. I know cysts aren’t uncommon, but everything I have read says they should disappear by 28 weeks. The doctor also said he had never seen one this size this far along…. That makes me a little uneasy. I’m 37 and it’s still there. Has anybody out there had the same thing with their baby. What was the outcome? The doctor has talked about the possibility of autism and Down syndrome or having to go in after the baby is born and removing it, due to the size causing pressure on the brain.. I’m a little worried, but I am staying positive. Anyone who knows about this kind of thing or has been through it some reassurance would be nice. What happened in your sitch? I as well as the doctors are also worried because the baby is not gaining weight like it should….

Cyst in Fetal Brain at 37 weeks?
I haven't heard of this either, but I googled it and this is what I found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choroid_ple...

http://www.ucsfhealth.org/childrens/medi...

And this case history (a bit hard to read as its in medical-speak):

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cg...

"CASE HISTORY A

After maternal spotting, a PSG at 33 (repeated at 37) weeks' gestation showed an otherwise normal fetus with an intracranial fluid-filled, hypoechoic, flaccid structure 7.5 cm in diameter by the right lateral ventricle (Figs 1 2, 3, and 4) reported as a probable arachnoid cyst. The case was discussed with neonatology, pediatric neurology and neurosurgery consultants. With an otherwise normal fetus without hydrocephalus or midline shift, standard expectant obstetric care was advised to proceed with delivery attendance by neonatology."

TBH this does not seem to suggest any great risk to your baby, just that they would maybe need to have an neonatal unit on standby at the delivery and obviously observe your baby closely.

I would try not to worry. I had to take medication throughout my pregnancy and they scared me stiff by saying that there was a possibly that my son would experience "withdrawals" to the medication when he was born etc etc etc. Well he didn't he was just fine! Came home after a day and half in hospital and 13 months later is a happy, healthy little lad!!

Doctors sometimes voice their concerns too readily and scare patients. But then on the flip side if they don't they are accused of "withholding information".

The best person to speak to is your doctor, tell him exactly what you are worried about and that you want some definite answers and what the probability if risk to your baby is. I'm sure that everything will be fine, if it was a severe danger they'd be talking about emergency C-sections etc and as they don't seem to have mentioned this then it sounds like it will be fine for your to deliver vaginally, which wouldn't be the case if there was a severe risk to your baby.

Good luck hunny and try not to worry uneccessarily!
Reply:I have never heard of this but I do know... if God puts in your life, He will take you through it.
Reply:whatever it is that would be the outcome, you just have to accept it. it's God's will. you just have to be prepared for anything that might happen.

Reply:I really don't know very much about this but after reading the two other replies I just had to write to you. Just because it might be 'God's Will' doesn't mean that you have to take this lying down. You should think about talking to some other doctors and getting other opinions. Don't worry about offended your current Dr, this is you baby's future that you are fighting for here, if it upsets them then get a new Dr. Also find autism and DS specialists in your area and talk to them---the odds are that they have see cases similar to yours more times than a general pediatrician or your obgyn would've. Just gather as much knowledge as you can. I'm sure this is a frightening time for you, you are in my prayers and I wish you the best.
