Ovarian cyst ruptured - shoulder pain?

I had an ovarian cyst burst approx one week ago, I am feeling better, however I am still have body aches. The day it happened, I was having a sharp shooting (on and off again) pain in my right shoulder, the doctor said it was just the blood from the cyst trying to reabsorb back into my body. Today the rest of my body feels fine, but I still have that sharp pain in my shoulder. Is this normal?

The ovaries aren't supplied with nerves as specific as those in your fingers, tongue, skin, etc. What you have when you have pain in the ovaries is "referred" pain, where it touches off a nerve somewhere along the line.

I'm not sure of referred ovarian pain, but sometimes when women are pregnant and the baby is outside the uterus and in the fallopian tube (ectopic pregnancy), the referred pain is between the shoulder blades. I *assume* that this is kind of what's happening to you because of the general area being so similar.

EDIT: If the pain is bad, though, let your doctor know.
Reply:i'm not sure if it is normal.

try contacting your doctor and telling him about this shooting pain.
