Is a cyst that keeps coming back something to be worried about?

About 1.5 years ago my friend found a cyst about 1.5 cm in diameter on his left upper back.

He got it surgically removed in the last quarter of '06. The doctors said it was benign.

Now, the cyst has come back again, in the exact same spot, growing below the scar where it was previously removed.

Does anyone know why? And is this something my friend should be worried about?

He is 32 this year. His mother died of breast cancer a few years ago. I have advised him to get the regrowth of the cyst checked out again but he is unwilling as he said the doctors told him that it is "unlikely to be cancer".

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE DOCTOR DID NOT GET ALL THE ROOT.. I HAD A CYST REMOVED FROM MY WRIST AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE A ROOT SYSTEM AND IF U DO NOT GET IT ALL THEY WILL COME BACK...AND IF HIS MOTHER HAD PROBLEMS THEN HE SHOULD HAVE IT CHECK AGAIN JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE...BE SIDES DOCTOR ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT.....AND TELL HIM LIFE IS TWO SHORT TO MESS WITH A MAYBE........
Reply:He should seek Medical Advice soon.
Reply:I have one on my knee that I've had forever. I always wondered about it but never done anything about it.
Reply:I'm a breast cancer survivor, had a cyst the same size.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to scare your friend, however you need to know if the cyst was really a cyst or a fatty tumor.

cyst do come back allot, and most of them are not cancerous. But, you never know when that one time it will become cancerous, so tell him not to put off going back. It won't hurt to go see the doctor and ask.

One more thing are you sure it came back or is it just scar tissue????
Reply:Whoa!! When it was removed did the doctor send it to pathology??

Unlikely, hell. I'd want to know, is it or isn't i!

To a doctor, now.
