Thornwaldtz Cyst in sinus, EXTREME Headaches, Sinus Conjestion - HELP ME?

I was diagnosed with a Thornwaldtz Cyst in 2004.

I now have HORRID headaches, extreme sinus congestion, and sometimes my vision is blurred, I also get terrible vertigo.

NOT TO FORGET that every 2 to 4 weeks I get a NASTY drainage of the cyst, which runs into my throat. It tastes like a metallic rotten egg! YUCK!!!

Can anyone tell me what I can do, short of having to take months of antibiotic therapy to remove infection, then the cyst removed and my sinus reamed out?

You can flush out the nasties and shrink the swollen tissue.

It will also keep the bacteria down.

Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)
Reply:Everyone I know that has had sinus surgery, it hasnt worked. It does temporarily. I know people that have done it two or three times.

Myself, I had it once and that will be the LAST TIME!!! Seven years ago, April 12th I had mine. It was the worst day of my life. I went blind from the doctor screwing the surgery up. I dont know of anyone else that had this happen though. I do know that it wasnt worth it because I still get sinus infection.

So I hope you can find an alternate cure. Try an herbalist, or a chiropractor, they can do wonders for sinuses.
Reply:Tornwaldt's Cyst

(Pharyngeal Bursa)

Tornwaldt's cyst is superficial to the superior constrictor muscle of the pharynx and is covered by the mucuous membrane of the nasopharynx. If infected, it may cause persistant purulant drainage with a foul taste and odor, eustachian tube obstruction (probably inner part of the estachian tube which can cause the terrible vertigo you are referring to)and sore throat. Purulant (forming or containing pus) exudate (accumulation of a fluid in a cavity, or matter that penetrates through vessel walls into adjoining tissue) may be seen at the opening of the cyst. Treatment consists of marsupialization or excision.

So I can see why you have all the issues you have listed. It's not unusual in your case considering the location. Anything in the sinus area, such as this, can certainly cause headaches, blurred vision and vertigo. I would have it removed. In the long run, you'll most likely feel a lot better:) You might want to consider a second opinion by an ENT too. But it sounds as though you have suffered long enough. Cosidering the length of time that you have had this, you'll probably be on antibitics before, during and after the procedure is done.
