Ovarian Cyst?

Hi I was just recently told with a CT Scan that I have an ovarian cyst the doctor said it was fairly large he said 5 sonograms I am only 19 and I had a baby August 27th also I haven't had a period in 2 months I am not trying to get pregnant but took 2 at home pregnancy tests and took a urine pregnancy test at the hospital all were negative. I feel slight pain in my left abdomen but I also have a kidney infection, urinary tract infection and an infection from my cats. I was just curious should I be worried.. should I be cautious of this large ovarian cysts like not running around .. and there is nothing I can do.. I won't be able to even talk to my OBGYN to monday but I am just worried it will burst I am not good with pain..

Also I heard birth control helps i have it but my obgyn told me not to take it until my period starts.. and could the cyst be the reason I am not having periods?

Ovarian Cyst?
Yes. I have had an ovarian cyst and had to have one of my ovaries removed because the cyst twisted and cut off the blood to my ovary and killed it. My periods were also very irregular before I was diagnosed with one (I was rushed to the emergency room with intense pain in my abdomen, which is how I found out). The cyst could definitely be the reason you are not having your period.

You really want to be careful with cysts and get rid of it as soon as you can either through surgery or medication that your doctor provides. From what I understand, if it is a large cyst, surgery is probably the best way. It depends on the surgery (usually either laproscopy or regular surgery or a combination of both) but the heal times should be about 2-4 weeks. I was perfectly fine and walking about after a little more than two weeks after my surgery. Do not do anything that could make the cyst twist or tie up as it can seriously affect the ovary and let your doctor know immediately if you feel any sharp intense pain.
Reply:Cysts form naturally, the egg is inside them and when they rupture the egg is released. It happens every month. Don't worry unless your dr. says something is wrong or if you have pain.
Reply:Women get ovarian cysts frequently - every so many months. Most of thew time, they are so small and slight - they are perfectly harmless. I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit when I was 18. It hurt to stand upright. Sitting was damned near impossible. The doctor gave me some medicine to take (hormone I think - it was like 16 years ago!!). If the cysts had not gone down dramatically within 24 hours, I was to have gone into emergency surgery. It went down. It's perfectly normal to get a cyst every now and then - just if it has a sharp pain of anykind - be very worried!
Reply:A genuine ovarian cyst is a growth and not a normal occurrence, whatever others have said here. They are benign but can burst which is unpleasant. I had one removed as it was large and was causing me discomfort and bleeding(I am past menopause and don't bleed any more).

The operation was keyhole surgery and there was pain for a week then I was ok. Now there is no trace of the surgery.Check with your doctor, it might be ok to leave it for a while and just keep an eye on it, or it might have to be removed depending on it's size.
