Ovarian cyst problem?

I am a 17 yr old female experiencing ovarian cyst problems. My first rupture was when I was 16, it wasn't that painful, but it scared me. In August right before I started school I had a huge cyst rupture (size of grapefruit) and I had to be rushed to the ER. It ruptured while I was running. Now and then I feel the sharp pains in my abdominal region... I consider myself to be a responsible young lady, and trust me...I am no where near wanting to conceive,(I'm not sexually active) but when the time comes in 30 yrs(lol) do you think it will affect my chances of conceiving? Also, has anyone else experienced ovarian cysts at such a young age?

Ovarian cyst problem?
I've had them since I first began menstruating. I didn't get trreatment until I was in my 20's - but what a difference it has made! I used to live in constant pain.

Mine are "functional cycsts" meaning it's a malfunction of the normal ovulation process, rather than the polycystic ovary syndrome, which is the one most likely to cause fertility problems, not to mention other hormonal imbalances.

Functional cycts are much less likely to impact fertility, and as long as you're not actively trying to conceive, a non-cyclic, estrogen-based birth-control pill (which inhibits ovulation altogether) is great for controlling and preventing the formation of more cysts. There's no good reason to live with unnecessary pain, and you can go off the pill if and when you want to try to conceive someday - I had NO difficulty whatsoever conceiving.

If yours are polycystic ovarian disease, it's a different story, and I have friends who had their ovaries out by age 30, but again, that's something you need to see a doctor about. A simple ultrasound and hormone level tests can help determine that.

Please talk to your GYN about it!
Reply:I experienced the same thing for several years as a teen. It eventually went away and now that I am 25, I rarely have attacks anymore.

My Dr. told me that my grew during the time I didn't have my period and then would burst/break up when I got it/just before.

No harm was ever done so I shouldn't have problems conceiving. Only extreme cases where the cyst doesn't break does it causes problems b/c they could have to remove the cyst surgically and perhaps your ovary.
Reply:yea i do and i'm only 15!

i'm probably already pregnant so i want have to worry about that when i get older hah..

yes u might have a hard time conceiving...u may have to use fertility drugs...BUT hopefully you won't if you take medicine and birthcontrol for it..you should be fine! It might go away when you get older!
Reply:When i was a teenager i had 3 ruptures ,i ate so much yogurt i can't stand yogurt now ,feel assure it should not affect having children later on .i have 3 health children all cesarean ,but i don't think was the cyst that cause that.

I bet you have rough MP every month ?

just make sure your gyno knows your history .

Good luck.
